Smart Strategies for Thriving Through the Summer

Summer is right around the corner. The kids will soon be out of school, vacations are on the horizon, and the Fourth of July will be here before you know it.

Yet as much fun as summer can be, it’s not the easiest time to stay committed to taking care of yourself. Routines are often turned upside down and it can be especially challenging to control your schedule—and even when and what you eat.

So what’s the secret for having a great summer without gaining weight and losing focus? The best plan is to have a plan. It’s much harder to eat well at a family barbecue, for example, if you arrive hungry and have no choice but to eat whatever is served. If you plan ahead, you can have a terrific time and still stick with your program. Have a protein snack before you leave for the party so you won’t arrive hungry. Take a delicious salad or healthy side dish that you—and everyone else—can enjoy.

Have a summer road trip planned? Long stretches of inactivity in the car and the temptation to snack while driving can pack on the pounds. Be sure to stock up on your favorite protein bars and other healthy snacks before you hit the road. Having them within easy reach can help manage cravings and avoid thousands of unwanted calories.

Be sure to make time for yourself. If you’re currently on program, consider visiting your Lindora Clinic first thing in the morning. The earlier you go, the less likely you’ll be to skip your visit. Whatever you do this summer, have fun doing it. It’s the perfect time for bike rides, swimming, long walks and other activities you may not always have time for throughout the rest of the year.
