The Lindora multivitamin-mineral supplement contains antioxidants. What are antioxidants and why are they important?

In July of 2005, Lindora reformulated their high potency multivitamins to better meet the needs of program participants. They have been infused with important free radical fighting antioxidants such as L-gluthathione, Alpha Lipoic Acid and Grape Seed Extract. They are more palatable, easier to swallow, and slightly smaller in size. Also, you need only to take two twice a day.

Antioxidants are compounds that help protect against free-radical damage. Free radicals are highly reactive molecules that bind to and destroy body components. Free radical or “oxidative damage” is what makes us age. Antioxidant nutrients like beta-carotene, selenium, vitamin E and C protect us against the development of heart disease, cancer and other degenerative diseases. In addition, antioxidants are also thought to slow down the aging process.

What do antioxidants do?

• L-gluthathione – working with vitamin C and E, L-gluthathione assumes a critical role in defense of free radical damage and is responsible for regenerating oxidized Vitamin E in the body, thus poteniating the antioxidant benefits of Vitamin E.

• Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is an antioxidant that is crucial for energy production. It also helps break down sugar for the production of ATP, the fuel used by cells to keep the body running. It has a tremendous ability to trap free radicals. ALA causes increased levels of glutathione, which helps the body dispose of toxins.

• Grape Seed Extract – is an aggressive free radical scavenger and is thought to have cardio-protective effects.
