Living with Gratitude

Have you ever noticed that it’s often the people who have faced the greatest struggles in life who are the most grateful for what they have? Perhaps that’s because they know what it means to do without.

We all have much to be grateful for. Living with a sense of gratitude is life transforming. Here’s an easy way to get a fuller picture of how lucky you are in spite of whatever difficulties you face. Review your list of current dilemmas, problems or complaints. Then construct a sentence that acknowledges each difficulty, but goes on to express gratitude for the bigger picture. Here are some examples:

“I wish my back didn’t ache, but I’m grateful that I can walk. Some people can’t.”

“I wish I made more money, but I’m grateful that we have a roof over our heads and food on our table. Some people don’t have either.”
